First Day of Fall

This is my absolute, all time, no doubt about it favourite time of year! Some call it sweater weather, I call it perfect!

A narrow path by the river--meant more for horses than bicycles.

Our best vacation memories come from road trips in the fall. We love to ride our bicycles, find lesser used paths and enjoy the sun dappling through the changing leaves. Sometimes we stumble upon a path like this one, not great for our bicycles maybe but amazing in it’s beauty.

Sometimes you just have to stop your bicycle ride and look around. Enjoy the moment and eventually find your way home.

This is from two years ago....

Our Fall is looking a little bit different this year, no road trips, no lazy long bicycle rides no walking in the woods. Sometimes the path you are on takes an unexpected twist. You end up someplace you didn’t plan. Not only didn’t you plan to be here, you never wanted to be here. But it is still important to enjoy—wherever you are in life. Look around, count your blessings.

Today on the first day of astrological fall, here are the blessing we are counting.

  • All of our family is back in Ontario and are all healthy

  • Don is healing—slowly but still—healing, still walking with a walker, but walking-it could have been so much worse

  • I love my new job-despite starting under stressful conditions at home it came at just the right time

  • Our daughters who are working from home one day a week each—working from our home so I can go out to work-I work from home the other three days a week

  • Amazing weather-making it possible for Don to walk outside in the parking lot a couple of times a day

  • Funny, compassionate, kind grandchildren

  • We live in a city with lots of greenspace and parks and paths-we aren’t using them right now but they will be there when we can venture out again

  • We have a fridge and freezer full of food, a comfortable bed and clean clothes.

  • The list could go on and on, so even though there is no fall road trip, no fall bicycle rides through the woods, no leisurely walks and picnics we have each other and are making the most of the situation that lies before us.

The woods close to our house.

Enjoy your fall. I know I’m going to.
